Reporting to: EAF Senior Nursing Officer

Emergency Assistance Facilities provides advice and assistance to sick and injured people worldwide on the back of travel insurance policies, 24 hours a day, and 365 days a year. We provide a range of services to clients including the interpretation of benefits available under the terms of the policy, help with accommodation arrangements and repatriation back to the UK following illness or injury.

Working from Group Headquarters, the EAF Nurse will provide medical advice and repatriation services to EAF on current assistance cases.

 

Responsibilities

The following responsibilities are to be carried out under the direction and supervision of the Senior Nursing Officer:

  • Decide on ‘Fitness to Fly’ within their own scope of competencies
  • Able to give medical and repatriation advice to EAF team, clients and relatives
  • Liaise with the doctors and other members of the Medical Team as well as in-house Underwriters
  • Ability to retask clinical decisions to the appropriate clinician
  • Embark on Nurse Repatriations as per the requirements of the service
  • Maintain accurate contemporaneous records on back office systems (Magenta)
  • Refer to a manager/Senior clinician when any work falls outside their area of knowledge or expertise

 

Requirements

You must be a qualified nurse with:

  • Experience in the assistance field and undertaken repatriations
  • Minimum of five years qualified
  • Up to date Immediate life support course
  • Recent Aviation based study day such as CCAT or the RCN forum
  • Relevant up-to-date acute clinical skill set
  • Ability to maintain own core competencies and revalidate with the NMC
  • Evidence of professional indemnity insurance, ie: RCN

 

Personal qualities

  • You must be fluent in English, both spoken and written. Knowledge of other languages would be an advantage, but is not essential
  • Ability to work alone prioritising own workload
  • Ability to work in a demanding environment
  • You must have an excellent, customer-centred telephone manner and approach
  • Given the nature of the work, you will be required to provide on call support out of core office hours, on a rota basis
